2010 Summer season starting up.
Jul 1, 2010Atlantsflug is now ready to start up it Skaftfell operation. Our aircraft will be in Skaftafell on July the 2nd if the weather permits as we are getting a strong frontal system up to the south cost of Iceland and it might delay our plan for a day or two. Not to worry as we always have sunshine after the rain. ? Unfortunately we did have to raise our charges for the sightseeing flight to meet an unheard raise in fuel prices so far. Or 42% in one year for the type of fuel we use. We did however manage to keep the increase to a minimum we believe. This year we are offering all our standard tours 1 through 6 as well as offering a new tour to enable our customers to view the spectacular scenery at Eyjafjallajokull that erupted this spring. The sight is a “must see for you to believe” adventure just so you can put into prospective the forces that where at play during the eruption. This is our tour no.7 in our brochure that can be viewed on our front page. After the summer season is over we will offer this tour to Eyjafjallajökull from Reykjavik Airport. We hope you have the opportunity to come and visit our country and that you have the opportunity look us up so we can take you on a flight to see and experience the scenery with the birds eye view.
Atlantsflug receives its AOC IS.OPS.033
Jun 30, 2010Atlantsflug is proud to inform that it has now received its own “Aircraft Operation Certificate” in accordance with regulation of the European Aviation Safety Agency “EASA” and our certificate is No. IS.OPS.033. Until now we have been working with two different operators but we decided in January 2010 not proceed with that set up for our operation and become fully independent in this regard. Atlantsflug is now holds both the; Operation Certificate IS.OPS.033 for flight operation and the IS.145.011 certificate for its maintenance operation. Atlantsflug has just recently received from the Icelandic Aviation Authorities a approval to maintain helicopters at its Part 145 Maintenance Organization and has already acquired a contract for maintaining 3 helicopters for the Icelandic Helicopter Operator Nordurflug located at Reykjavik Airport.
Summer Season 2010.
May 31, 2010In the year 2010 we have witnessed two volcano eruptions on the south coast of Iceland at Eyjafjallajökull (Mt.Eyjafjalla Glacier). The volcano activity has now stopped and business is already getting to what we are used to during this time of the year. We at Atlantsflug are looking forward to meeting with our customers this summer. In 2010 we have added a new route that you can look up at the top of the page under “Brochure” or “Flight Operations” and by looking up “Tour 7” In this tour you will travel from Skaftafell, over the highland to Lakagígar and then across the Landmannalaugar area and onward to the new volcano eruption site at Eyjafjallajökull. With this tour we hope we can give our customers the best off all in one flight in regards to an unbelievable scenery that can only been seen from the air. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns that you believe can assist you in finding answers to. This year we will be using our twin engine Piper aircraft that we started using last year with good results. Our aircraft is powered by two fuel injected piston engines that are not susceptible to ash as turboprop or jet powered aircraft. As always safety is our number one priority and we look forward to see you all this summer or at a later date.
VOLCANO ERUPTION - South Iceland
Mar 22, 2010On March 20th 2010 just before midnight an eruption occurred on a mountain ridge between the two glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull on the south cost of Iceland. The location of this eruption is half way between Skaftafell and Reykjavik. Atlantsflug is planning to offer flights to the eruption area out of Skaftafell in the coming season starting in May-June. The new tour will include a flight over the magnificent Lakagigar and Landmannalaugar area and then extend on toward the eruption area before returning back to Skaftafell. This will give you a bird’s eye view of this latest volcano activity so far. More information will be available beginning of May.
